Nature has always beckoned me and it seems the older I get, the more I’m drawn to its spectacle. My personal mantra is to “always be on the lookout for the presence of wonder,” an inspiring quote from E.B. White.

My venture into photography began quite organically with the purchase of a Samsung Galaxy phone several years ago. On my daily nature walks in Cary, North Carolina and on my extended visits to coastal Maine each summer, I began to experiment with shooting flowers, trees, clouds, the sea, moonrises and sunsets among many other subjects. And the more I did so, the more I started to really sense the presence of wonder that is all-encompassing all the time. Being outdoors, surrounded by nature, connects me with my spiritual self; it calms me, grounds me and helps me gain perspective.

My work exemplifies my appreciation for the constant evolution of nature and the unique beauty of each season. While I often walk the same paths, I’m constantly discovering different perspectives on the same subject—such as light, shadow, fog, reflections, or raindrops. I aspire to bring a distinctive point of view to my images that others may not envision.

Having spent the bulk of my career as an administrative professional in an office setting, it has been immensely rewarding to tap into my creativity through digital photography. It’s as if years of pent-up artistic energy have finally been released. As I continue to hone my photographic skills, I’m pursuing a short-term goal of sharing my work in an exhibition setting and an encore career as a professional nature photographer.
